The Physicals: Agnes' Gym Sessions

I'm being forced by this fat Po to join fitness to prepare for our prewed pics. Because during July people keep telling me that I lost weight and look very skinny. I hate working out so much, I'd rather go for dancing lessons than going to the gym. Since he is so sure that it will make me look better, I then decided to give it a try. I signed up for a month trial in Fitness First TA with a personal trainer for 14 sessions. It turns out to be a nightmare for me, I got to go gym three times in a week. Since I seldom do exercise (actually never), the first few session was very very tough and tiring. My body aches and sprains here n there. Waking up in the mornings aching all over :(
But after few sessions, I get used to it and don't feel that much pain anymore.

David keep forcing me saying that: "No pain no gain," or "Great Bodies are Engineered not Born" -_-

Back Training (Deltoids)

Thigh Training

Quadriceps Training

On the Cross Trainer

My Private Trainer Anto

The goal of the gym sessions is to get rid of my tummy haha...though I look skinny, but I'm super greedy...I eat alot and all of it goes to the tummy Whenever there are family dinners, I never even once take food for David UNLESS my tummy is satisfied enough. Then I'll start throwing all the leftovers to his plate, hihi...I'm , too bad you have me as your girlfriend haha.Ya anyway, I didn't feel the gym sessions really help me much or maybe it's because I never control my diet haha...But according to David, my shoulders look a little more muscular rather than skinny..Hmm, but what I feel is I'm very very like pig after joining the gym. I used to have very bad insomnia (always can't sleep at night)...but ever since I started exercising, I'm feel so sleepy everyday haha...

The Physicals: Dave's Training Part 1

To prepare for our prewed photo shoot that's to be taken during mid September, both of us had to undergo a month of physical training to look our best.
Amids work, weekends and organising the wedding, we had to squeeze in time for a good effective workout. Due to the shortage of time, we choose a training regime that will produce the most results in the one month time span that we have, starting from mid August.

I decided to follow Edward Norton's Training Regime for American History X.

He went from looking like this:

To this:

Edward Norton has a small body frame, much similar to mine. The training regime he undertook focused on the upper body (shoulders and arms) to make him look lean and defined, rather than big and bulky.
Now that's exactly what I'm aiming for, making the shoulders and arms look bigger would make the shirts fit tighter hence looking more muscular, lol.

Diet:

1. Reduce my intake of fatty and oily food, which means most of local and chinese food, not crossing them out, just taking them in lesser amounts.

2. A high protein diet to develop and maintain the muscles. A daily protein intake of about 60g derived from eating lean meat, dairy products (milk, yogurt) and also supplements.
Note: I won't be taking any more Amino Pills as I used to, due to the fact that I've been doing less exercise and I have to admit aging does decrease the body's metabolism rate, so an excess of protein would be hard on the liver and will lead to fatty liver disease.
The only supplement I would be taking is L-Men's High Protein Formula which consists of 12g/serving of protein. Just the right amount and it's a local brand, much cheaper.

The Workout:

A balance of Weight Training, Cardio and Ab excercises. Hitting the gym three times a week, working on the abs on alternate days at home and 1 session of high intensive cardio session every Tuesdays.

1. Weight Training

Mondays I focus on the shoulders and biceps.

I do each of these excercises with a pair of dumbells.
3 sets of 12 reps each.

Overhead Raise
Alternating Front Raise
Lateral Raise
Bicep Curls
These exercises are the integral weight training exercises I do to make my shoulders and arms look bigger. Of course these have to be coupled together with the same amount of chest and back exercises to make the whole upper body even.

We'll look into the cardio and Ab training next time.

The Crazy Things We Did in Perth (Dave & Housemates)

The best times I had in Perth was when I was living with friends: Agus, Julia, Mark, Stanley, Tamara and Ci Lenny. We'd do plenty of stupid and crazy things.

The following is a slideshow we made when we were still staying at Holton Way, Cannington. (Year 2002, if I'm not mistaken)

Back Left to Right: Mark, Agus
Bottom Left to Right: David, Julia, Ferdinand (Doesn't stay with us but a regular fixture in the house)

Can't imagine that all of us in the pictures are married and having kids, me being the only exception.
You can show this to your kids when they grow up guys, lol.

The time we got together

As a memoir of our 4th anniversary of getting together as a couple on 20th August 2010, we'll do a recap on the events that ultimately lead us to be with each other.

(Dave's version)

1. Was having 3 dates a week, Wednesdays was with a party girl (cannot show the world one), Fridays was with a daddy's girl (need to send her home by 9pm) and weekends with Agnes.
2. Continued with same schedule for a month trying to figure out which one to settle with. Crossed out party girl, too much alcohol made her rather emotionally unstable and needy. The Friday girl was leaving for another country, leaving me with Agnes
3. Friends were going to Dufan (Dunia Fantasy, Jakarta's Theme Park), so I forced Agnes to go with me telling her that if she came with me to Dufan I'll then accompany her clubbing that night.
4. Was on the viking ship, she was screaming, so being the cough..gentleman...cough, I put my arms around her to make her feel safe. Actually testing her reaction. If let touch2 a bit then got positive sign, lol.
5. She shyly pushed my hand away, my thought was, hohoh jual mahal. (Trying to up her price)
6. After Dunia Fantasy brought her back to her apartment where she had prepared a shirt for me to change to, wakakakak. Then we went clubbing with her group of friends.
7. Was after 2 weekends clubbing with her, that I decided to make the move. Actually no I didn't plan anything, I act a bit tipsy then cuddled next to her pretending to be drunk. If backfire then at least I got excuse to tell her that I was drunk and continue to act as friends, lol.
8. Cuddle2, she never move away so I moved in for the kill.
9. Ni yao cuo wo de ni peng you mah? (You wanna be mai girlfriend?), wakakak and of course she agreed lah.
10. Still say wasn't really sure about me, then the next day sms say being together with me is like waking up from a dream, wakakakakak.

With friends during the trip to Dufan 2006
Ingrid and Agnes at the Dufan trip
(Agnes's version)
1. He forced me accompany him go to Dufan. At that time, my face was extreme full pimples...haha...but i he didn't even care. Ya i noe well that you're blinded already, too bad to say that.
2. After finished playing in Dufan, we headed for dinner with his friends. I kept instructing him to take the food that I like and put them nicely on my plate. After my tummy satisified, i stepped on his feet to signal him to change his shift as my bodyguard for clubbing.
3. We often club together, of cos I brought him to be FREE BODYGUARD and to PAY FOR THE DRINKS. Please lor, I wont be so dumb !
4. One night, he pretended to be drunk and asking me to be his girlfriend, i did agree to be his girlfriend. He sent me home and asked for a good night kiss before leaving. YES, YOU MAY KISS THE WALL !!! WHAT A PERVERT !!!
5. The next day, i awoke to his phone call just to hear his mushy disgusting words "Only been apart from you one day, but i miss you voices already"...YUXXXXX
6. It is sad to say that you can't get your dream girl as i wasn't your type. You always want someone who'll be at your beck and call 24hrs a day. Millions of apologies that I'm so very busy with eating, shopping and travelling.
7. Lastly, congratulations David for spending rest of your life with your annoying TUT BABY. Remember, you're the one who asked for it.

And another thing, thanks for welcoming me into your family. Now you have 3 women to bark at you everyday. Your grandma, your mum and me of course..hahaha...Don't worry I'll get you an ear plug, dear...I'm still as thoughtful as before, that what makes you like me in the first place rite? Cos I'm indeed thoughtful.

I'm still considering if putting up a slide of our childhood pictures during the wedding, is actually a good idea.

No more regrets since I already decided to marry her, we both decided to put the past behind -_-

The Wedding Entrance: JK Wedding Entrance

I saw this video about a year ago, its a very cool wedding entrance, in fact it's the coolest. The video went viral with more than 54 million views. It also helped Chris Brown's forever top the sales on iTunes for the first few weeks it was released.
In the video, the couple together with their friends, family, best man and bridesmaid all made an entrance dancing down the aisle.
I wanted to do something similar for our wedding but alas, the wife forbids anything like that :(
I don't think it'll have the same effect in Indonesia. I'll definately have a hard time forcing people to dance in front of the guests, the parents and grandparents won't agree to it either.

Here's the video

Maybe I can work out something together with the Wedding Organisers for a toned down version, not putting too much hope on it though.

Growing up in Singapore

While my grandfather was still alive, it was his idea that me, my sis and our cousins would move to Singapore to study. Indonesia during the 1980's was under the regime of Soeharto, which forbids the teaching of anything chinese.
Therefore we (Sina, Siman, Silvia, me and Sherlia) all moved to Singapore at a young age starting from Kindergarden (age 5-6) moving on to Primary then Secondary school education, till we graduated from the O'levels. It was this decision that allowed all of us to be able to speak proficiently in English, barely manageable Mandarin, and in broken Bahasa Indonesia when we grew up.

It must have been God's plan that my granddad was seated beside Auntie Lim during the flight to Singapore. Striking up a conversation on the plane he explained that he wanted his grandchildren to study in Singapore but he needed a host parent that was able to take good care of us. Auntie Lim who's a single mum and a teacher, eventually agreed to undertake this task.

Starting from my sis, one by one we moved to Singapore when we were 6 years old. Although we were away from our parents and the rest of our family, we were being treated as part of the Lim's (Auntie Lim, poh poh, Hui Cece, Hin Koko, Nge Koko and Anula the maid, there was a dog, I can't remember the name or find any pictures of it).

Through the few years that I had stayed with Auntie Lim and her family, I felt that Auntie Lim's strictness in enforcing discipline in us, while we were still young had become a strong foundation for us to grow up upon. We were really blessed that she took really good care of us.

Here's some photos of us during our childhood as compiled by Auntie Lim:

Po po, Kamala, Sina, Silvia, David, Siman
That was us in front of Mc Donalds, if I wasnt' mistaken this was one of the first Mc Donalds to ever open in Singapore. It was in 1987 and that's the year I first moved to Singapore. (Look at how high I pull my pants up, it must be the fashion of that time, lol)

Here's us having our first french fries and hamburgers.

Dancing

I love ballroom and Latin dancing so much. At first, my dad kept forcing me to learn it. At that time, i was like no way, it 's meant for the old ppl, euuww... But somehow, after years goes by, and after seeing some dancing movies, i started to have some interest in it haha

I then forced my brother to be my dancing partner and took private lessons with Mr Danny in Kelapa Gading. He is a very very professional dancer, it was very tough to learn dancing. But he managed to teach me Waltz after like bout 10 sessions. To be honest, it is quite boring at first, because you need to maintain your body straight and not move the upper body during the dance. For the first 3-5session, i feel like I was being punished by him, stand up for an hour just to make sure I'm not moving and keeping my body straight, even my hands are not allowed to move (LIKE A STATUE :()

Anyway, after about 10 sessions with him, i decided to quit and find another teacher. I love dancing, but i wasn't aiming to be a professional dancer, so i really hate it when all my basics have to be perfect, haha (in other words LAZY)..

My second, awesome teacher is Mr Tovic, haha...Even though he's not as good as Mr Danny, but i enjoy learning with him. I get to learn a lot from him, Salsa, Jive, Rhumba, Cha cha, Bachhata. The easiest of all is salsa, its the only one that you do not need to memorize steps, as the female follows the male's lead. Hence, for dancing the main key is from the guy. Sadly said, after learning all those Latin dance, i forgot how to get a proper posture for waltz. Waltz is for ballroom dancing and salsa is a Latin dance . As for Latin dancing, you are free to move, but for ballroom it is rigid, haha.. I love both, but i find myself more suited for Latin dancing:)

Anyway, i forced David to learn 1 dance for our wedding day. He chose to learn tango, which i, myself never learnt before. David always said that its very easy, ya ya..we will see how he do. I doubt it tat he can do it well, just hope that he won't make me fall down on the big day. Hope that we have that we have the courage to make it for our wedding day. Jia yo :)

The Songs: No Me Ames

While I was driving to work in the morning, I heard this song on the radio that really caught my attention. It's in Spanish I felt it to be really suitable to be sung during our wedding. Didn't really catch the title of the song all I heard was the repetition of No Me Ames. I jotted it down in my memory and googled it up as soon as I reach the office. So there it is: No Me Ames by Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony. No wonder I felt that the singers have an unusual chemistry in the duet. (They're actually married!!! I didn't know that earlier)

After watching the video on youtube, I found the original version more of an argument between the couple, not really suitable for a wedding song. Then I found the live version of the song where the music arrangement was more upbeat and the couple really enjoyed each others performance on stage, it's totally perfect.

Now this is definitely one of the songs I want to be hearing at my wedding. Knowing that me and Agnes have absolutely no singing talent (singing out of tune and making a fool of ourselves is not exactly our kind of dream wedding), we have to get the suitable singers with a little bit of chemistry between them to perform this song for us.

You can watch the videos here:

The Original Version

The Live Version

Having someone sing a Spanish song is definitely a plus.
No one understands the language and it's just plain classy :)

The Plan to get Fat

Well I have been skinny since young till I decided to gain some weight before my 25th birthday. I had written a blog post on friendster and I'll repost it here just for the record. Weight gain tips included!!!

Taken from Friendster blog:

New Years Resolution
January 17th, 2006 by davelee

Yooo a belated happy new year to all the dudes.
U guys made Ur new years resolution yet?
Well mine is to gain some weight. Hohohoh, got kinda bored by ppl saying that i look good but kinda thin. Nahhh, so the target is to gain 10 extra kilos in 3 mths time. This may not be much, but considering someone who has such high metobolism that I literally just burn off all the fats I take in, this can be a little tough. Eating alot or eating less does'nt seem to affect my weight that much it, just stays the same.
So in a business sense its just more profitable to eat less anyway. Heheh.
But this year is gonna be different, i’m gonna reach the 1st quarter of my life and its time to make a big difference. So these are what I have started doing and eating since Jan 1.

1. Signed up for a gym. 3 sessions a week with a personal trainner. Yeah massive weight gain programme babyyy.
2. Started eating 5 meals a day, well small meals so they get absorbed more easily. Taking extra high amounts of protein, heheh still a growing boy wat.
3. Drink 3 glasses of massive weight gainer milkshake. 1 glass of these baby contains 1000+ cal. The average amount of calories a normal person who workouts would consume is 2000 cal. So 3 glasses of these high concentrated milk is actually more than enough to last me the whole day. But hey these should go together with a well balanced diet for better results.
* The shakes contain 2 glasses of full skim milk, 5 spoonfuls of Ultimate Weight Gainer Powder, 2 bananas, 3 Orea biscuits and 2 spoonful of vanilla ice cream. Enough to make 3 portions just nice for a full day. Wanted to add raw white eggs, but cannot tahan ended up going to the toilet more often then I eat.
4. 10-15 amino pills a day, depending if I workout at the gym. Its just added supplements for faster muscle recovery growth and development.

The results so far:
Gained 3.5kg in 2 weeks, mwahauhauhaa. Now I’m gonna aim to gain another 12 kg to fit the recommended weight for my height. Only 2 more mths to go and the PT sessions are getting tougher and tougher, I get muscle sores that its difficult to sleep at night. But what to do, pump energizer lah.

So before I might look like this:

Chicken Little
But in 3 mths I would be looking more like this:
Foghorn Leghorn
Mwahuahuahuha… so guys any encouragement or other tips for gaining weight will be appreciated.
___________________________________________________________________________

That's the blog entry I wrote in 2006

Results: Gained 10kg during the period of Jan - Mar 2006. Most of it on February. Then I started to gain more and more weight :(

Here's the before and after photos:

Before

After
All I can say that my weight gain program has been successful or rather too successful, lol. I used to get made fun off when I'm still skinny, so I guess my fear of being skinny has led me to become fat -_-

Even the Pussy Cat dolls sang "Becareful of what you wish for, you just might get it".

Agnes' Bro's Wedding

For our decor, we would be using de'sketsa by Rina, as we had used them for Agnes's brother Wilson's wedding. The difference is that Willson's wedding is a sitting down party, where ours is a standing buffet. This allows us to have more freedom in the guests invitation.

Here's some pictures of the decor:

The Guest Book
Entrace to Ballroom
Wedding Photos as decoration
Heart Shaped Decor on the Aisle
The Stage
As you can see, they had done a pretty good job with the decor. Therefore we will be working with de'sketsa for our wedding, but we have our own unique theme that will push their creativity and their decor skills to the limits. Just wait and see, its still top secret, lol.

The Story of Dave & Nez

Our Nicknames for each other:

Dave: Po (After Po the Kungfu Panda, with the same belly size)
Nez: Tut (After the Tut Tut Clan from 10,000 BC movie)

Our difference in age is four years, according to Chinese superstition four is the best number for a relationship because it symbolizes stability, e.g Chair and Tables all have four legs for support -_-

How we met:

1. Introduced by our friend, Thomas in Coffee Bean, Mall Taman Anggrek on the year David just came back to Jakarta for good, 2004
1. Officially got together on August 20' 2006
2. Formal proposal on August 08' 2010
3. Getting married on January 29' 2011

How we got together (Agnes' Version):

1. After our friend Thomas introduced us to each other, we have no interest at all, and never contact him.
2. One day, David add me on my msn, but ofcourse we never chat in msn
3. After been a long time, David randomly said hi thru msn and from there we start to get to chat thru msn but without any intentions.
4. David starts to share with me of who he has a crush on at that time, and so did i :)
5. Somehow, we secretly start to like each other :(..but ofcourse, neither of us admit it.
6. When I went to China for month, David sms'ed me on my mobile.
7. I was hoping that he would try to contact me and in return, i got him a shirt.
8. When I got back to Jakarta, David find excuse to meet me to JUST GET THE SHIRT FROM ME. And he is quite jealous when he saw me with another guy haha...I DID IT ON PURPOSE, HOHOHOHO
9. After that, he start asking me out. Actually i start hiring him as my FREE BODYGUARD which i used to accompany me to go club with my friends :)
10. And...finally we ended up being together in the club as well :)

How we got together (David's Version):
1. I was getting my friend Thomas to introduce me to his group of 'girl friends' for some time.
2. After meeting 3-4 girls Thomas introduced to me (I had no interest in a single one of them, he really have to do some selection work 1st), I got introduce to Agnes together with a group of friends.
3. No special impression of Agnes from 1st meeting, (aiyoh really not my type)
4. Met up a couple of times together with Agnes' group of girls (yeah much better)
5. Got close after we start chatting on msn by discussing each other's problems.
6. Didn't miss her when she went to China, I sent her an sms so that she'll start to think of me again.
7. Went out quite frequently with her after she came back from China, because I had no other people to bring to party on Saturday night, lol.
8. Somehow ended up with her, end of story, lol.
